What is my IP address?
Your public IP address is the address under which you appear on the internet. Assigned by your internet service provider (ISP). You may have different IPs at home, at work or via VPN.
What is reverse DNS (hostname)?
Reverse DNS (rDNS) is a reverse DNS query — converting an IP address to a hostname. Used by mail servers to verify the sender. Missing PTR record can cause email delivery problems.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 is four numbers separated by dots (e.g. 1.2.3.4). IPv6 is a newer protocol with longer addresses (e.g. 2001:db8::1). Many ISPs still primarily provide IPv4, but IPv6 is becoming more common.
